High Pressure Gas Booster Pumps

Robust & reliable gas booster solutions

Blue Rock is the exclusive Australian supplier of Hydratron gas pressure intensifiers, more commonly known as gas boosters.

Our comprehensive range of engineered gas booster units are extremely reliable, economical, explosion proof, compact and easy to install. Designed to boost bottled or constant supply gases where system or bottle pressures are limited, gas boosters are most commonly used in high pressure applications utilising industrial gases such as air, nitrogen, helium, hydrogen, methane and other gases.

Key features

The Hydratron range of robust gas booster pumps provide the extra muscle needed to operate various equipment across many different industries. They are capable of discharging gas pressures of up to 21,000psi (1,448bar), have the ability to reach set pressure quickly and are easily controlled through air regulation.

Our gas boosters are available as single or double acting. Standard features include:

  • Ability to stall at a predetermined pressure and hold fixed pressure without consuming power or generating heat
  • Safe pneumatic operation – no heat, flame or spark risk
  • Infinitely variable output pressure control
  • Easy to apply automatic controls
  • Standard models are suitable for air, nitrogen and helium. Design options are available for more hazardous gases
  • No limit or adverse effects in continuous stop/ start applications

What’s the difference between single and double acting boosters?

Gas booster pumps can be described as single or double acting, double air head or two stage. Boosters are sized by their pressure amplification ratios, so the higher the ratio the higher the output pressure of the booster.

Single acting boosters have one gas cylinder, while double acting boosters have two identical gas cylinders plumbed in parallel for a higher output flow.

A double air head is similar to double acting except that it also provides double the pressure ratio. Two stage boosters have two different gas cylinders that are plumbed in a series, each with a different ratio.

New product highlight: Helium gas boosters

One of the major cost risks involved in oil and gas production environments is downtime due to rogue emissions or leaks from process systems.

The Hydratron helium booster ensures all leaks can be found at normal system operating pressures, while rendering the internal atmosphere inert. And with a low dew point, it reduces the risk of corrosion and hydrate formation.

Helium has been proven to find a leak path more easily and reliably than other gases or water, due to its small molecular size. The booster unit provides a controlled constant helium injection pressure into the nitrogen stream to achieve the required mix.

Our Products

The Blue Rock advantage

Manufactured to the highest standards, Hydratron gas boosters offer many desirable benefits including:

  • No electrical connection required and can utilise any inert gas
  • Can be stalled and started on full load indefinitely without heat build-up or power usage
  • Stays cool when in use due to drive air expansion at the exhaust
  • Proven reliability, easy to maintain and robust

Industry applications

The compact size and minimal weight of our gas booster range enables operation in many different environments, providing a broad appeal across various applications for mobile, fixed and offshore installations.

Some of the most common uses include:

  • Pressure testing
  • Accumulator charging
  • Down hole upstream pressure equalization
  • Leak detection
  • Cylinder charging
  • Charging vehicle suspension systems
  • Breathing air systems for scuba and fire department tanks
  • Inflating high pressure tires
  • Transferring gas from a supply cylinder to another container
  • Charging aircraft landing gear
